Hamilton

Local search in Hamilton, measured street by street.

We ran 196 real map searches across Hamilton and its neighbours on 29 August 2026 and found the most fragmented local market we have measured anywhere: forty-five different plumbers ranked first somewhere in twelve miles, and the strongest held just two points of forty-nine. Nobody has taken this town, which means it is there to be taken street by street.

A seven by seven grid of search points across Hamilton, with a different business top of the map at nearly every point

Real measurement, not an illustration: who was first for “plumber” at each of 49 points across Hamilton and its neighbouring towns, August 2026.

First, the plain version

What “top of the map” means, and why it decides your phone.

Search for any trade on a phone, “plumber near me”, “roofer”, anything, and before the normal results Google shows a map with three businesses pinned under it. That box is what this page calls the top of the map (the industry calls it the map pack). It sits first, it shows ratings and a call button, and the three businesses in it get the calls. Most people never scroll past it.

Here is the part almost nobody is told:those three change from street to street. Google picks them mostly by how close each business sits to the person searching, which is roughly half of the whole decision, then by what the listing says it is, and by its reviews. So there is no such thing as “the” ranking for your town. There is a different answer on every street, and you cannot see it from your own phone, because when you search for yourself you are standing at your own business and Google already knows who you are. Your own search always flatters you.

That is why the numbers on this page come from running the same search from dozens of points across the area, the only honest way to see the map as customers see it. And it is why this matters commercially: every point where you are in the three is a street whose calls you are getting, and every point where you are missing is a street where the job goes to somebody else before you knew it existed.

What we measured

Forty-five plumbers led somewhere. The best held two points.

A 7 by 7 grid, points two miles apart, four searches run from every point on 29 August 2026, the same method as Paisley and East Kilbride so the towns compare like for like.

The geography does something particular here. The twelve mile square takes in Blantyre, Bothwell, Uddingston, Motherwell and Larkhall, and the winning businesses typically held a top three spot around a mile and a half from their door, and the gaps between these towns are about the size of that reach, so unlike East Kilbride’s separate estates, the contests here run across the town lines: Hamilton’s plumbers are fighting Blantyre’s and Motherwell’s whether they know it or not. The mechanics of why are in the published study.

What Hamilton searches

Everything registers here. That is rarer than it sounds.

Google keyword data for the United Kingdom, July 2026, pulled 29 August 2026. The near me versions run fifteen to sixty times bigger and are decided by the searcher’s street.

Of the fourteen towns we measured, Hamilton and Glasgow were the only two where every search pattern we tried registered volume, right down to somebody searching “marketing agency hamilton” about ten times a month. Quoted against ourselves as usual: “seo hamilton” was about 10 in July too, so this page is not here to rank for our own trade. It is here because the demand is broad, the map holding it is the most open we have seen, and measuring a town before talking about it is how we would work for you.

For Hamilton businesses

The same measurement, run for you.

Everything starts with the grid above, run for your business and your searches: where you appear across Hamilton and the neighbouring towns, where you vanish, and which of the fixable things (the pin, the category, the details agreeing everywhere, a review routine) is holding you back. Then the same grid again sixty days later, so you judge the work on movement rather than promises.

Priced in the open, from £500 setup and £75 a month, details on the pricing page. In a field of forty-five, the baseline usually finds something cheap to fix first, and if it shows you already winning your streets, I will say so.

Questions

Worth asking.

Can you get my business top of the map across Hamilton?

No, and we measured your town before saying so. Across 196 map searches on 29 August 2026, the strongest business in any trade held first place at 5 of 49 points, and in plumbing the strongest held just 2, with 45 different plumbers first somewhere. Hamilton's map is the most fragmented we have measured in any town. The honest work is extending your reach street by street, not promising a town that nobody, on the evidence, has ever held.

I am in Motherwell, Blantyre, Bothwell or Larkhall. Does this apply?

Yes, and more directly than you might think. The measurement above spans twelve miles, which covers that whole chain of towns, and the winning businesses typically reached about a mile and a half from their door. Around Hamilton the gaps between towns are about that size, so a Blantyre business is already competing in Hamilton's contest and the other way round. The town line on the map means less here than almost anywhere.

Forty-five different plumbers led somewhere. What does that mean for me?

It means nobody has consolidated the market, which is the best news a small firm can get. A map that fragmented is usually a map where most businesses have never done the basics: the right category, details that agree everywhere, a steady review routine. In our study the businesses past 150 reviews reached over twice as far as those under ten. In a field of 45, the first firm to do the boring work properly stands out quickly.

You are based in Paisley. Why would you know Hamilton?

Because we do not guess towns, we measure them. Everything on this page comes from searches we ran across Hamilton ourselves before writing a word of it, and the same measurement gets run for your business specifically before we advise you on anything. The work is identical from anywhere; the numbers are yours alone.
